Sunday Roasts in Bristol

For us Sunday is like a big old hearty hug, our roasts are sacred, (in fact, we’d go as far to say as they’re probably the best in the world) think succulent cuts of slow-roasted West-Country beef, larger-than-life Yorkies and boat loads of chef’s proper gravy.

Complex, robust, fresh, zesty and light – all words used to describe the cocktails you’ll find at the bar. Serving up a mixture of firm-favourites including Espresso Martini and Old Fashioned to stand-out signatures including a Pink Lady, Sour Negroni and the Picante, there’s a cocktail here with your name on it.

What’s for Breakfast?

The most important (and arguably the best) meal of the day – and we do it the right way. There’s no buffets around here, choose from the menu and we’ll get to it. Freshly cooked to order, from a full-English to eggs benedict and smashed avo on sourdough.

Watch Six Nations in Bristol

Catch every chair-gripping, pint-spilling moment of the epic Six Nations as the powerhouse teams battle it out on the pitch. From 31st Jan – 15th March, we’ll be showing all the rugby action live on our big screens.

Fuel your match day with perfectly poured pints of Guinness, a fine selection of real ales, and a seasonal menu loaded with hearty pub favourites and rugby-ready bar snacks. Book a table for four or more to dine with us, and we’ll throw in a round of Guinness to sweeten the deal.

Mother’s Day

Join us for Mother’s Day to indulge in our delicious Sunday roasts, with slow cooked British sourced meat, double egg Yorkies, crispy roast potatoes and lashings of chef’s secret recipe gravy. To top off the day Mum will get a dessert of her choice or a glass of bubbly on the house with any of our bookings, just because they deserve it…

The Hort’s Story

Siblings Richard, Annie and Bessie Hort came from a long line of caterers, their mother and maternal grandmother had run eating houses, while their father, William Hort, had been Bristol’s chief rates collector. They grew up in the family business, the Exchange Dining Rooms in Wine Street – the most fashionable restaurant in Bristol, where the first cocktails ever to be mixed in the city are said to have been made here. The restaurant moved to its present Broad Street site (now, Hort’s Townhouse) in 1922 with signature dishes including oyster soup and Dover sole.
